Estonian Foreign Minister Sven Mikser: Estonia supports Ukraine’s continuing reforms

Today, Foreign Minister Sven Mikser was in Copenhagen for the Ukraine Reform Conference that focused on good governance and economic development.

Mikser reaffirmed in his statement that Estonia continues to support Ukraine. “Ukraine has made considerable progress in implementing reforms and the reform process must continue. Reforms and the fight against corruption will create better conditions for economic development and will increase security,” Mikser said.

“Through the Estonian Center of Eastern Partnership, Estonia contributes to the EU’s Anti-Corruption Initiative. In the framework of this initiative, Estonians and Danes train officials of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. We also support training sessions organized for journalists and opinion leaders in order to explain the content and necessity of reforms better and thereby maintain Ukrainians' enthusiasm to continue with the reform process,” Mikser added.

The conference was opened by Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman. The participants of the conference included foreign ministers from EU, NATO and G7 countries as well as representatives from international organizations and Ukraine’s public and private sector and non-governmental organizations.

Today’s conference was a follow-up to the first Ukraine Reform Conference that took place in London last year. The next Ukraine Reform Conference will take place in Canada in 2019.
